The Nantucket Scattering Urn

Our craftsmen weave these in the age old Nantucket tradition, that was first practiced by the wives of whalers who were out at sea. Sea grass is tightly woven around a form. The top and base are hand polished black walnut. Bone is now used instead of ivory and the ash handle is bent using steam. Following the scattering it can be used to hold mementos, as a purse or sewing kit.
