How to Collect Fingerprints

Collecting fingerprints for your fingerprint jewelry

When time permits order the  ink kit at the bottom of this page and you should have it in four days. The $5.00 charge will be refunded with you first order

When there is no time you may use any ink pad and plain white paper. Black ink works best.

Begin by studying the thumb of the person whose print is being taken. Select the area of the thumb that is the most interesting. It is generally the area on the pad of the thumb where the ridges swirl. This is the area you will want to ink. The jeweler will select the best portion of the clearest print for the fingerprint jewelry charm you desire.

Practice taking prints on any blank white sheet of paper. Lightly touch the inked surface twice and then press downward on the paper. Use more of a tapping motion than a rolling one. You want the prints with the most contrast between the lines of the fingerprint.

When you are satisfied with the look of the practice prints, place five good prints along the bottom of plain white paper or a white card. Artisans will select the clearest portion of the best print for casting the fingerprint jewelry charms.

Clean the inked surface with a wet paper towel. A drop of hand lotion that contains alcohol can assist in getting every last bit of ink off.

Mail the original (Not a Copy) prints, include the name of the deceased and the invoice number to:
